Professor Focuses on Crime Hot Spots

Professor David Weisburd, of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, will be receiving the 2010 Stockholm Prize in Criminology for his work in studying the effects of law enforcement’s focus on key crime hot spots. Professor Weisburd has found that concentrating crime prevention efforts on just 5% of all crime hot spots (street corners and addresses where crime frequently occurs) will reduce crime more significantly than traditional city-wide patrols. His research shows that focusing crime prevention in only 5% of those areas will reduce crime and not displace it to other locations.
