Jefferson County, New York, is trying to curb alcohol-related problems by implementing a GIS system to map alcohol vendors in relation to alcohol-related calls for service. The goal is to map the vendor locations and then mashup the data with social, criminal, and health-related data, to see if there is a correlation.
Once that data is mapped, the Substance Abuse Council of Jefferson County hopes to provide law enforcement with the data, to increase patrols in areas where there are high densities of alcohol vendors and hopefully reduce crime and potential safety concerns.
