Tasers Come Under Fire as ‘Excessive Force’

The Chrisitan Science Monitor just recently published an in-depth look at the controversy over the use of tasers and stun guns by law enforcement. There is no doubt that the use of tasers has decreased the number of injuries caused to suspects and police officers in the line of duty, but the article points out that some groups are concerned that officers are using tasers too frequently as a preemptive tool rather than as a last resort in subduing a suspect. The fact that there have been 300 taser-related deaths in the past nine years does not help the argument either. However, the use of a taser is far more attractive that the use of a firearm.

It would be good to get the perspective of actual police officers who use tasers. If you use a taser in the line of duty, what do you think about he lobby to decrease the use of tasers by law enforcement.
